Museveni marks 70th baptism anniversary at St. Luke Kinoni

Yoweri Kaguta Museveni marked his 70th baptism anniversary with a celebration ceremony at St. Luke Church of Uganda, Kinoni in Mbarara on 6th August, 2017 . Way back  his childhood stage, him and his parents travelled 27 miles to Kinoni where they stayed at a family friend's home for some days until Aug 3, 1947, he was then baptized on the same occassion during his parent's wedding at Kinoni, Rwampara Angelicin Church. In his father’s arms, the priest sprinkled little water which signified that he had joined Christianity.

His unforgettable moment was a few days after his baptism where his day was spoilt on their way back to Ntungamo when he stepped on hot cigarette remains of an Indian bus conductor that burnt his bare foot which was very painful for days. Being bare footed was because traditionally in Ankole, people would walk bare footed and they only used to put on rubber shoes (rugabiire) during dry season to avoid being injured by thorns and hard grass these were introduced by colonialists, however, Banyankole had a cultural wear called enkaito made from the buffalo hide during pre-colonial times these were replaced by colonial rubber shoes.
