President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential candidate in the 2026 general elections, resumed his nationwide campaigns on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, with a grand entry into the West Nile sub-region, addressing thousands of supporters in Pakwach District.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Presidential Flagbearer for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the 2026 general elections, concluded his second day of campaigning in the Lango sub-region with twin rallies in Amolatar and Dokolo districts.

Yoweri Museveni nominated as a Presidential Candidate in the 2026 General Elections

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was nominated as a Presidential candidate in the 2026 general elections on September 23, 2025.

The ceremony took place at the Electoral Commission (EC) offices in Lubowa, Wakiso District, where Justice Simon Byabakama, the EC Chairperson, confirmed that he had fulfilled all nomination requirements for Presidential candidates.

President Museveni's campaigns will run under the theme: “Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status”.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in the company of the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, presided over the launch of the Yoweri Music Album at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala on September 27, 2025. The event was organised by the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) under the leadership of Edrisa Musuza, popularly known as Eddy Kenzo.

Establishes NRM

In 1981, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni founded the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as a political organization aimed at restoring democracy, peace, and stability in Uganda. The formation of the NRM followed the disputed 1980 general elections, which were widely believed to have been rigged in favor of Milton Obote’s Uganda People’s Congress (UPC). Museveni, who had participated in the elections under his Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM) party, rejected the results, declaring that political change could not be achieved through unfair electoral processes.

Museveni nominated ahead of 2026 Elections

President Museveni was officially nominated as a presidential candidate for the 2026 election on 23 September 2025 at the Electoral Commission offices in Lubowa for his seventh term in office ahead of the 2026 general elections. Justice Simon Byabakama, the EC Chairperson, confirmed that he had fulfilled all nomination requirements for Presidential candidates

On 12th May, 2001, Museveni began his second presidital term after a massive campaign where he won with a 69.3% as a National Resistance Movernment (NRM) flag bearer. His manfesito was "Consolidating the Achievements" where promised to continue implementing sound economic policies, investing in health and education, and fostering regional cooperation.
