NRA soldiers entering Kampala

On January 26, 1986, Museveni's National Resistance Army (NRA) fighters captured Kampala after a five-year guerrilla war known as the Ugandan Bush War, leading to the establishment of a new government under Museveni's leadership.

The NRA forces successfully captured the city from the retreating Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA), signaling a definitive victory.

And on January 29, 1986, following the capture of the capital Kampala, Yoweri Museveni was sworn in as the new President of Uganda, establishing a new government under the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
