Museveni swears in for the Fourth Presidential Term
In Febuary 2011, the Electoral Commission chairman, Badru Kiggundu, announced Museveni's victory with 68.38 percent of the votes, putting him way ahead of the national average needed to secure victory in the presidential elections. He was later sworn in as the President of the Republic of Uganda on 5th May hence begining his forth term in office.
Museveni awarded a Doctorate
President Museveni was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in International Relations by Faith University of Turkey on 6th May, 2010. The degree was in recognition for his contribution to the development of political and commercial relations between Turkey and Uganda. This award highlighted the importance of international cooperation and the role of leadership in fostering global partnerships and also served as a testament of President Museveni's commitment to enhancing Uganda's international standing and its relationships with other nations.
President Museveni swears in for another term at Kololo Airstrip
On 12th May, 2001,President Museveni Yoweri Kaguta Museveni took an oath for other five years as the President of Uganda. Dignitaries graced Kololo Airstrip in Kampala during the ceremony as the Electoral Commission Chairman, Hajji Aziz Kasujja confirmed to the different dignitaries from Africa and the entire world that Museveni emerged winner of the 2001 general elections winning with 69% on the presidential polls, challenging four other candidates.
The New York Times featured Museveni in a new class of African statesman in 1997
In the 1997, The New York Times featured President Yoweri Museveni by describing him as “a new class of African statesman, second only to Nelson Mandela.” This recognition came at a time when Museveni was widely celebrated for stabilizing Uganda after decades of turmoil under Idi Amin and Milton Obote.Museveni’s government was praised for introducing economic reforms, restoring international relations, and presenting a blod stand against corruption.
President Museveni and Janet Kainembabazi Kataaha celebrate 40 years of marriage
On August 24, 2013, Museveni and Janet renewed their vows during their 40th wedding anniversary. The couple was blessed with four children together identified as Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Natasha Museveni Karugire, Patience Museveni Rwabwogo and Diana Museveni, additionally their family has gracefully expanded with 15 grandchildren. Their marriage has been a significant aspect of their public life, as Yoweri Museveni has been the President of Uganda since 1986.
Museveni receives an honorary doctorate from the California based Latin University of Theology
In January 2007, President Museveni received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from a US institution for his efforts in HIV/AIDS awareness and education. This was awarded to him due to his transiparency in political leadership where many global leaders remained silent on the HIV/AIDS issue, Museveni spoke openly about the crisis in Uganda. He broke the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS and put the epidemic at the forefront of the national agenda.
