Museveni Receives Leadership Excellence Award

On June 3, 2016, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was awarded the Afrika Verein Award for excellence in leadership from the German-Africa Business Association. 

The ceremony took place in the Germany capital Berlin. Museveni became the first African President to receive this prestigious award.

Museveni swears in at Kololo Independence Grounds

On May 12, 2016, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was sworn in for a Fifth term in office at the Kololo Independence Grounds. The oath was administered by the then Chief Justice Bart Katureebe, assisted by the Chief Registrar of Courts Paul Gadenya as thousands cheered on. 

Museveni Receives Doctor of Literature Degree

On July 30, 2015, President Museveni received a Degree of Doctor of Literature (Honoris Causa) from the University of Dar es Salaam, in recognition of his notable contribution in the application of knowledge to solve real problems. 

Prof. Rwekaza Sympho Mukandala, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam presented the certificate to His Excellency Yoweri Museveni at Serena hotel Dar es Salaam.

On 6th February 1981, the NRA launched a guerrilla war against Obote’s government, beginning what became known as the Luwero War. This war started with only started with 41 men armed with only 27 guns, their behavioral character was based on discipline, patriotism, and the protection of civilians. The rest were consoled as 'commandos' but were essential carriers of the looted munition. 

Establishes NRM

In 1981, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni founded the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as a political organization aimed at restoring democracy, peace, and stability in Uganda. The formation of the NRM followed the disputed 1980 general elections, which were widely believed to have been rigged in favor of Milton Obote’s Uganda People’s Congress (UPC). Museveni, who had participated in the elections under his Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM) party, rejected the results, declaring that political change could not be achieved through unfair electoral processes.

When Museveni released a rap song

In October 2010, President Museveni released a rap song. To President Museveni, music is not just for his ears, it is close to his heart, he released a hip-hop song ‘Another Rap/Mpenkoni’, that did not just play in local clubs and media, but it also caught the attention of the international media. 

Ugandan music lovers danced to the song, by the country's president, Yoweri Museveni.

The song and accompanying video, cobbled together from the president's speeches, became something of an Internet sensation, getting tens of thousands of views on YouTube. 

President Museveni Receives Honorary Doctorate

On December 12, 2010, Makerere University awarded Honorary Doctorate to President Museveni. President Yoweri Museveni received his Honorary Doctorate of Laws Award Letter from The Chancellor Makerere University, Prof. George Mondo Kagonyera.

H.E President Museveni was awarded in respect of his outstanding achievements and exceptional contribution to the advancement of humanity; in particular his commitment to Agricultural modernisation and value addition,Education, Science, Technology, Innovative leadership and Women Empowerment.

New Constitution launched

In 1993, President Yoweri Museveni under National Resistance Movement (NRM) initiated the process of drafting a new constitution to promote peace, stability, and democracy. The Constitutional Commission led by Benjamin J. Odoki, drafted the new constitution, then the Commission conducted public consultations across the country, seeking input from citizens, interest groups, political organizations, and traditional leaders. 

Launches Sowing The Mustard Seed second edition

On 7th February, 2016 President Yoweri Museveni launched the 2nd edition of his book “Sowing The Mustard Seed” that he edited himself. During the launch that took place at Serena hotel, Museveni said, that he decided to rewrite it personally so that he could tell a clear story. He also said the first edition had grammatical mistakes and therefore he had instructed the editors not to edit the second edition. This book talks about his life, education, liberational wars and victory to presidency.

Joins Ntare School

After two years of junior secondary one and two at Mbarara high school, President Museveni later joined Ntare School in 1961 on a bursary from the Ankole Kingdom Government, however, he was required to pay shs 270 to top up on the money paid for him which was about Shs 520 full cost paid per annum. For the first time Mzee was able to pay his school fees through the money he had deposited at the bank.
